The Shamrock Run has been “Totally Portland” for 35 years! As the tradition continues, we are collecting stories, anecdotes and photos from past Shamrock Runs that may find their way into our 40th anniversary commemorative book.
We need your help in telling the story of the Shamrock Run, from its humble beginnings in 1979 with 900 runners a 10k course in Tigard, to becoming the third largest running event on the West Coast with more than 35,000 participants!
Send us copies of old bib numbers, newspaper or magazine clippings or personal photos. Include stories of why running Shamrock is so important to you, with quotes from family and friends about how they became Irish enough to participate – and the farther back in time, the better!
Join us in capturing the history of one of the oldest running events in the Pacific Northwest by submitting your part of the story. Assemble your thoughts and dig in the garage or basement for those special memories that you have from Shamrock, and then send them to us at
