Raise money for your non-profit while having a great time!

More than 1,000 volunteers are needed to assist on race weekend. Volunteers are in integral part of the Shamrock Run Portland, bringing energy and enthusiasm to thousands of runners.

We will donate to your organization for volunteering on race weekend. The donation is based upon the number of volunteers you provide.

If you’re a runner who wants to volunteer, click on the sign up as an individual link above. You get a volunteer shirt and the satisfaction of knowing you’re giving back to the running community.

If you are an individual who signs up to volunteer and fulfills your shift, you will receive a complimentary entry code to 2023 Shamrock 5K.

An adult over 18 years of age and willing to recruit all volunteers for your group.

To oversee and govern all volunteers at his/her specific location. It is imperative that the volunteer captain:

  1. Convey all pertinent info to all the volunteers for their specific task (including times, locations, directions, waiver, etc.)
  2. Ensure that all volunteers work their entire shift.
  3. Log the check in and check out times of volunteers.
  4. Oversee set up &/or clean up (if applicable) of station.
  5. Oversee inventory control as applicable to station. (i.e., cups and supplies at water station).
  6. Have Fun!

How many people are required in order to qualify for a donation for our group/organization?

We have removed the minimum number to volunteer with your group, but prefer one adult for every 5 youth. The minimum age to volunteer is:

14 years old to help at the Convention Center

15 years old to help at the finish line

16 years old to help on the race course

What if we have more volunteers than are needed for a specific job assignment?

We will place you in positions where we can utilize the number of volunteers you have.

Can we request a specific job assignment?

Absolutely! We will do our best to place you in the position you request based on needs. Position placement is first come, first serve so sign up early.

How much money can my group/organization receive as a donation?

Your group/organization will receive a donation of $25 per volunteer/per shift for your volunteer time.

When will our group/organization receive payment?

A donation check will be mailed to you 30-45 days after race weekend, and you have submitted your grant donation form and W9.

How do I submit a W9 to you?

Please email your W9 prior to race weekend to our volunteer coordinator Piper Ruiz at ShamrockVols@motivsports.com. If you don’t have a filled out form, use this. (please link: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf)

What happens after I sign up online?

You will receive a confirmation email after you sign up. Prior to the race, you will receive an email with specific details regarding your responsibilities and shifts, as well as

parking information and other helpful instructions. Note: if you signed up as part of a group, you will receive further e-mails from your group captain.

What if I can no longer volunteer?

Cancellation Policy: After you submit the sign-up form, if you find you are unable to fulfill your volunteer commitment(s), you are responsible for finding your replacement(s) and reaching out to our volunteer manager Piper Ruiz prior to your shift. Same day cancellations are not allowed.

If you need to cancel, please email our volunteer coordinator at ShamrockVols@motivsports.com as soon as possible. If you are with a group/organization, please be sure to notify your group Captain.

What if I cannot volunteer the whole shift?

Once you sign up, we count on you for the full shift and cannot replace you if you leave early. At times, it may appear your area is over-staffed, but please be aware that all shifts are coordinated based on anticipated crowds. We count on each volunteer for help at the busy end of the shift. Please do not leave your post.

May I bring a friend?

Yes! We can always use extra help! Please be sure to have them register via the volunteer as an individual link to secure a volunteer position and Volunteer T-shirt.

How should I dress?

We recommend all volunteers wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Flip flops are discouraged. Please dress in layers to compensate for sunshine to rain and cool to warmer temperatures throughout the day. All race day volunteer jobs will take place outside and this event happens rain or shine. Note: some jobs have a physical requirement and/or age requirement; please review the job descriptions before you register.

What should I bring with me?

Clothing appropriate for the weather. For all shifts, we suggest you bring your own food, snacks and refreshments as you feel you will need or want for your shift. A light snack pack will be provided for all volunteers. There is no storage available, so you will have to carry any items you bring with you. Most areas will have a place to set down your belongings, but it will not be secure.

Can children volunteer?

There must be one adult for every 5 youths. You will not receive a donation for children under the minimum age. We want to ensure the safety of all our volunteers and athletes. Please direct any questions regarding children to our volunteer coordinator.
