It’s a 13.1-mile St. Patrick’s Day party! The Shamrock Half Marathon is one of the premer road races in the state of Oregon. A perfect goal for healthy New Year’s Resolutions or am ideal tune up for spring marathon training, this is THE half-marathon to run in Portland.

The Shamrock Half Marathon starts at SW Pine Street and runs north to the turnaround point on NW Front near Nicolai. The course continues south, passing Pine Street, and then joins the 15K route, charging up Barbur Blvd and taking on the Terwilliger incline up to OHSU before crossing the finish line at Yamhill. Total elevation gain of 859 feet and the views are worth the climb.

Here are the ways to get your bib number and t-shirt before race day:

  1. Join a Team of 12 or more!  Team captains get lots of perks, and team members get all bibs and t-shirts shipped to the Team Captains so you get yours before anyone else during the first week of March.
  2. Non-team members can get their bibs and t-shirts at the Shamrock Run Fitness Fair, presented by Moda Health, in Exhibit Hall A/A1 at the Oregon Convention Center.  For runners, your timing chip is attached to the back of your bib number.
  3. Have a friend pick-up your bib for you at the Shamrock Fitness Fair (non team members only). If you need a friend or family member to pick up your bib, please be sure you have:
    1. Signed the electronic waivers in your active.com account.
    2. Provided them a copy of your registration confirmation email (email copy is fine).
    3. Provided them a copy of your photo ID (photo via email or text is fine).

Bib pickup on Shamrock Sunday is available for a $10 purchase during online registration, or you may visit https://myevents.active.com/ to add this purchase to your event (use your Active.com login email and password).

  • You may use headphones but please stay alert and aware of what’s going on around you
  • Dogs are not allowed in any of the races for everyone’s safety – especially the dog’s
  • Strollers are only permitted in the Shamrock Stride (walking event) and in the Waterfront Park festival area.  They are not permitted in any of the running events.
  • There is a course time limit in the Half Marathon – you must maintain a pace of 13 minutes per mile while completing the half marathon.  You must make it to the intersection of SW Terwilliger and Hamilton Terrace (near the 9 mile marker) by 11:40am.  If you do not make it before that time, Portland Police will direct you to the right via Hamilton to rejoin the course and thus cutting out around 3.7 miles.  The course time limit is one of the conditions of the event permit and is strictly enforced.

The Shamrock Half Marathon will award the overall five fastest male and female runners, plus the top 3 male and female runners in each age group.

Overall winners will not be eligible for age group awards. Prizes will be mailed out in mid-April. There will not be an awards ceremony on race day.
